Pea Pie is what my Grandgin, my great-grandmother, always said for peekaboo. When my daughter Jodi started playing peekaboo at 7 months old, without thinking of it, I called out "Pea Pie!" Several weeks later, my mom was in town and I heard her saying Pea Pie to Jodi, too. I thought nothing more of it, other than it was so wonderful because it made my little peanut giggle.

Fast forward to April and my uncle heard me saying Pea Pie to Jodi. He made a comment about having heard of apple pies and pecan pies, but never a pea pie, and that Pea Pie is a Grandgin saying.

When I asked my Grandmother about the origin of Pea Pie, she told me everybody says that. Well, I know from some of the stares I've gotten that other people do NOT say Pea Pie! So between several of us, we figured out that Pea Pie must be a special Grandgin saying and another way of carrying cherished memories from our loved one forward to another generation of Pea Pie-playing babies. However, I have had one friend tell me her mom said Pea Pie or something similar -- so who knows the true origins of Pea Pie?!

Our little Pea Pie, born in April 2006 (at exactly 42 weeks!), is the light of our lives.

Elizabeth, Pea Pie's mommy, is a stay-at-home mom and a former state award-winning newspaper reporter with bachelor's degrees in journalism and Spanish from the University of Florida. She is a fourth-generation Gator grad and has recently returned to school for UF's Accelerated BSN program. She then plans to immediately begin her master's program to become a neonatal nurse practitioner or acute care nurse practitioner. Previously, she served as the Publicity Coordinator for the La Leche League of Marion County and on the publicity committee for ICAN, the International Cesarean Awareness Network. She is a 6th-generation Floridian (Jodi is a 7th!) and currently lives in Ocala.
